Around fifty automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Automobiles, walls and mailboxes were vandalized, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they stated in a release.
Officers report they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a resident discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued fluid.
The fluid had been drawn in the form of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Police then discovered many other marked cars and residential walls in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under legislation outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Officials state preliminary tests show the liquid was probably human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no indication as to its source; authorities are currently not aware of any physical harm in relation with the event," they commented.
Municipal representatives announced they were trying "to unravel the incident" and have asked to the community for information.
A senior official stated the attack left him stunned and needed to be solved rapidly.
"This incident hits the very heart of Hanau and reopens the pain of the extremist violent incident five years ago," he posted on a platform, referring to the killing of nine people by a assailant focusing on residents of migrant background in five years prior.
