An extensive 60-day journey circling the Australian Coast was terminated in the wake of the tragic passing of an elderly woman who was abandoned by the vessel on a remote coastal location.

The passenger had been trekking on the tropical location with shipmates from the vessel, but parted ways from the party for a rest. The liner left without her and returned later that day after the personnel realised the passenger was not present.

A major hunt discovered her body the next day.

Authorities are looking into the tragedy, in coordination with police and the state coroner.

The CEO of the shipping company said that passengers and personnel on the ship were informed that the remainder of the journey had been cancelled due to the "tragic passing and earlier engine troubles".

Through an announcement, he mentioned that travelers would be issued a full refund, and said the company was working "to organize the return journeys of the individuals via specially arranged planes".

Authorities also published an updated announcement, and said they had "provided a notice to the Captain" banning any further travelers from entering the ship.

The representative said that they would attend the liner in the Australian city upon its arrival.

Timeline of Occurrences

The vessel first departed the coastal city on the 24th of October, and was merely two days into the voyage at the point of the senior passenger's death. Lizard Island was the first stop on the journey.

Travelers on the ship - who usually pay tens of thousands of currency to join the voyage - were taken there for a day trip with the possibility of walking or snorkeling.

Relatives Statement

The child of the deceased woman said that her relatives was "surprised and saddened that the ship left the island after an scheduled outing without my parent".

Through her comments, she described her parent as an "active elderly person" who was a participant of a hiking group.

"According to scant details we have been provided, it looks that there was a lapse of care and common sense," she said.

She further stated that she desired the investigation would be able to pinpoint what "the organization should have performed that might have preserved Her being".

The vessel caters for up to a hundred twenty guests with nearly fifty personnel, according to official information. It was purpose-built to enter distant areas of the Australian shoreline and is fitted with "tenders" - minor craft used to ferry individuals on day excursions.
